Well what a glorious morning - NOT. Over a cm of rain over night in Maidstone and blowing a gale all night. It is supposed to have blown through by now. Time to go and see if any of our campers survived.

Apologies for not even trying toget down this weekend, but here in Whitstable we've had near horizontal rain for the last 18 hours straight. I've had previous experience of camping at the Hop Farm so continually put off journeying down, although the car has remained packed, ever hopeful all the time. Finally clearing and we're promised a pleasant evening, so maybe I'll get some local flying in.

It was well worth staying in the end....We were rewarded by warm, yes warm, sunshine. The wind varied from gale force to zilch, but mainly pretty strong..... The ladybirds dried out nicely, as did the crabs. One of my turtles stood up straight away, giving a good indication of the force of the wind. The campers managed to dry out most of their stuff, but their vehicles were sporting pounds of mud as they made their way off the field (Some with a helping hand from their neighbours or a tow from Colin). As I made my way to Tunbridge Wells I was greeted with a rainbow against a very black sky, but it is now calm and sunny, and out experiences of standing for hours in the rain seem a very distant experience. Would I go again, YES! Thanks for all your company and to Syd for all his efforts.

After the committee had run away the sun came out. Perhaps its an omen. We flew kites all afternoon drying out those flown on Saturday. The dragon got a really good second airing. Intrepid international man of mystery Collin was last seen towing Ernie out of a paddy field. Shame about the weather ruining an otherwise good weekend.

What a great weekend. Got wet & cold, buffeted by gale force winds and eventually push started by the international man of mystery (Thanks C2lln) All in All a great weekend that we thoroughly enjoyed. After the buffeting and horizontal rain who would have believed we would have left with dry canvas! I thinks we put on a good show bearing in mind the conditions. Thanks to all who made the effort to get there, especially our guests from Essex and Suffolk. Hope to see you all again some day, hopefully with better weather. Its a great site and I hope we are able to put in a proper showing someday. Mike

What an aweful start to the weekend but Sunday turned out lovely in the end, had a great afternoon in the beautiful sunshine even got burnt. What a lovely array of kites. Was told by some people who where visiting that we had brightened up there day with the lovely coloured kites that we flew over the weekend. Hope to do it again soon. Thanks for the invite.
Chloe.

I would add my thanks to all those who attended, especially those from Essex, Suffolk and also our friends at BKF.
I will offer my services in the future to attend when forecast iis rain and it is actually raining to attend until lunchtime and then leave, and hopefully the trick will repeat itself of rain disappearing and sun coming out
Thanks to Syd for his hard work, as I know it was a thankless task due to the changes, some of those relatively last minute by the Hop Farm team from the agreement arrived at a meeting at the beginning of 2012.
The number of people visiting was very low if they had one thousand visitors over both days, they would have been lucky

Could not agree more in the end it was a great week end. Was asked in the pub on Friday 'What do Kent Kite Flyers Do' We showed them 'WE FLY FOR FUN!' and in all weathers. I was surprised to find my table still upright this morning with the reel of 25lb line exactly where i left it even after the storm force winds that swept the site over night. Thanks to all who came from Essex Suffolk & Sussex to help put on a great show. Lets hope the owners of the Hope Farm thought the same.

Nellie the elephant packed her trunk ... And so it would appear did mine. If anyone finds a stowaway elephant (possibly damp) and line in their car - last seen at the dismantle of the gazebos - would they please give her a good holiday home and return her when next out to play.
Shame about the weather, would be a good event without the violent weather conditions, thanks to Syd etc as already posted by others
Thank you
