Following last year's successful initial event Kent Kite Flyers have been invited to return to bring along the display kites. The format will be basically the same as last year. The parish council will organise the kite making workshop, KKF will trade kites, bring along our loan kites. Parking will be on the grass inside the barrier to the road. Again more details as we progress.

Thanks Stephen for the attachment of the poster for the event. I would request members to print a copy and promote the event.
You may have noticed the official timing of the event closure is 4pm, which the councillors have just decided on. The CAA permission for height clearance requested is from 10.30am until 5pm.

Hope members will promote this event as per previous poster, I will also send on out to memebrs via e-mail. The various organisations who have invited KKF, look to members to promote each event, so assist and support where youa re able to do so.

Bringing this event to the top, hope as many members as possible will attend on Saturday, I understand that this year there will be a couple of portaloos, with the possibility of the yacht club being open to kite flyers to us facilities( I will confirm later in the week). Catering and ice cream vans should be on site as well.
I intend being on site from around 9.30, and would appreciate assistance in setting up the gazebos.
Please note there is also a club fly on Sunday 11th at Teston to commemorate Ron and Pat Dell and the Teston Kiteability Little Weekend from around 11am onwards. parking in car park.

Am happy to get there early and help out..subject to no more adventures/catastrophes which seem to be bugging me this year...
For those who came to Basingstoke and know how I missed most of the event...I then had an encounter as I was exiting the car park with a learner driver who ended up crashing into the gate post....He somehow seemed unaware that he should use his brake pedal!!! Damage to my car nil... Damage to his (mother's) car - bumper ripped off and badly dented wing...
I have my Coleman shelter Malcolm which as the GIT's have found is a godsend in all weathers with loads of shelter underneath...and I am well experienced at putting it up and taking down...
I can bring some sand sacks which are ideal for flying the larger stuff...Just need to ensure that I get them back at the end of the day...

Thanks Gerty for the e-mail.
I will be using both gazebos, one for Walmer Parish Council and the large one for the trading pf kites. Thanks for offering to be there early to assist with the erection of the gazebos. I have sourced the 50kg rubble sacks similar to last year and will bringing along 20 of these. It is up to you if you wish to bring along your Coleman Shelter for use by club members nearer to the car parking and the larger sacks for the gathering of pebbles. It will be up to those borrowing them to return them to you.

Having had a couple of e-mail exchanges with Kirsty, who is the clerk to the parish council, it does seem that the Yacht club facilities will be unavailable for flyers to use. There appears to have been problems in the past where the council have made arrangements and facilities have been misused in the yacht club.
However the toilets within the Parish Council offices will be available for use, especially by our lady members and those who have difficulty walking to the public toilets. Obviously it is the parish council's responsibilty in regard to the cleanliness of the portaloos as they have arranged the hire.

Just to add, I shall be bringing along a bag of second hand kites, most look as though they have only been flown once or twice. These kites mainly msall kites although there are one or two interesting items including a couple of shark kites made by the Caribbean Kite Company. These are single line kites. The Caribbean Kite Company was originally set up to provide Peter Powell access into the USA to sell his kites. My understanding that there was a parting of the ways later, and the shark kites may have been produced after the end of teh partnership.
There are some windsocks as well in the bag.
If you are interested in having a look, there will be a list of said kites, where Debbie, Janet and I will be trading. The kites will be with us, and will be put out for general sale during the day to the public.
Thanks to Dave Clements for cataloguing the kites.

If you are still awake or if someone else is who was there last year, can you tell me where the parking for us is?
I somehow thought the event was further towards the castle for some reason.....
