As Mike stated about yesterday, we have decided to subtitle KKF as Kite picnickers, which allows us to eat chat and sit in chairs. Well at least we are out in the open air, watching the kites (on the ground).
No venue for next week was decided, as many members are considering attending Basingstoke Kite Festival next weekend. Bill had requested flying in West Kent.
Leave it for suggestions for venue to be posted on here for next Sunday

Don't think I will be going anywhere this weekend. Full of antibiotics and feeling very sorry for myself. Would start a turtle if I could summon up the energy.

Great day at Basingstoke. Drove through torrential rain but arrived around 11.00 to wet roads but no rain. Overcast for a while then the clouds moved off and the sun came out to give us all a wonderful afternoon. Good displays in less than ideal wind conditions, never seen so many ballet routines finished early due to lack of wind. Stafford Wallace was his usual exuberant self, Josh Mitcheson brilliant whether with three kites or one rev, Carl Robertshaw showing off with highly technical rev flying that went right over the heads of the viewing public, Flying Fish lvely twinline ballet, Team Spectrum professional as usual, Flying Squad highly entertaining and some wonderful different kites from across the Channel. Well worth the 2 hour drive and an event that we will probably visit again. Met up with Steve & Sue, Peter & Jacqui (with their wonderful VW camper tent, ask Peter about the thunderstorm) & Gerty (you must ask her about her visit to the local constabulary!) All in all an eventful day Hope the weather stays fair for those going tomorrow (Sunday) Mike

Glad your first visit to Basingstoke was a success - seems there were lots of demos which always makes a festival. We were too busy to go today and have visitors tomorrow, so maybe next year......
Janet
PS Hope you soon feel better Gareth.

Yes, so sorry to hear that you are feeling under the weather Gareth.
Basingstoke is always a nice event and this year it lives up to it's reputation of being entertaining and friendly.
My banners are very colourful and I will be putting them up tomorrow. Am very pleased with them.
From Mike's report it sounds as though I have been in trouble!!!!! I missed most of today at the festival as I had to give a statement following witnessing an horrific crash on my way to Basingstoke last night. That followed a day with the police at work too so feel as though I need a good relaxing day tomorrow!!!!
Has been good meeting up with chums from the Blyth festival and good to know that they will be holding the event again next year. Apparently Peter has lots of photos which he is putting on a disc for me to have tomorrow.
We are also flying and presenting the Kelvin Woods kite made by Josh to his family tomorrow.

Had a great weekend our first visit to this festival, we arrived early on Sat am, just managed to pitch tent, before the storm hit us, once that cleared away, weather was good, very hot sunday, wind still fickle, but the invited flyers put on a good display. We all managed to put on a display of led night kites, 9 i believe, joint effort from KKF and Brighton. We were able to use facilities of the hockey club, although the showers were cold!!. Very well attended by the public especially Sun, we will certainly attend again. loved the banners Gerty

I was pleased with the banners too!
They were slightly overwhelmed by Carl's but should look good at the smaller events.
I really enjoyed Sunday too.
I'll be back next year!!!
