Hi everyone thinking of coming to sunny Deal tomorrow. Have done second check on noisy toilets and can confirm they close at 8pm. The Fish and Chip shop on the seafront, just past the pier, has a small restaurant attached and they also close at 8pm - Car parking is available in either the Royal Hotel car park(opposite) or Middle Street car park (behind). If wind direction remains as forecast it should be coming from the toilets towards the bandstand, and may be "dirty" due to influence of buildings. Bonefish - I'm sure you have a comment for that one

You can see the youngsters understand what the oldies write - you can still park by the Green, the carpark details were for the chippie.
Weather bright and sunny, strong breeze, temperature now risen to 7. Rather wet underfoot after heavy overnight rain.

Thanks to all those who came along to LUTS yesterday, it was really impressive. People were coming out especially to have a look at Kent Kite Flyers lighting up the sky. Drivers were parking up just to have a look. A couple had walked a few miles as they had seen the lights in the distance and were curious so just carried on walking until they found the display.

Have just counted the Pudsey collection tin - £52.28. Some people came knowing we were collecting whilst others were just walking their dogs etc and had no cash on them. Whichever they were, all expressed interest and praise for the spectacle in the sky. As two young ladies said, who had cycled up from town when they saw lights in the sky, "That's awesome". As local residents we were proud of the club for the display and proud of locals for appreciating it. Well done everyone. PS Did anyone misplace a mallett yesterday ..... it hitched a ride home with us.

A couple of people asked me about the LED lights I had on my kite and banner, so here is the info you'll need. It all came from eBay. Starting with the LED strips. Search for LED strip lights, you should get something like this. You are looking for 12 volt strips. There is a mind boggling variety so think about what you want (and how much you want to pay. Make sure you get a pack with a mains adapter, controller and remote control (the remote control is actually superfluous in my opinion). The SMD 5050 strips are three colours in a single LED, so are more expensive. The SMD 3528 strips are separate LEDs. You will pay more if you want multi colours. If you want a single colour, then its a lot cheaper. Think about the number of LEDs per metre. The LEDs on the kite were 5050 and cost just under £25, the ones on the pole are 3528 and cost about £14. Both were 5M lengths. That is the maximum recommended length to use from a single power source. They should come with an adhesive backing tape, just peel off the backing and away you go. I'd suggest you get the waterproof strips. If you intend cutting the strip, you will need a solderless connector. You will find lots of different sorts on eBay. Make sure you get the right one for your lights. If using a single colour strip, you want a 2 pin connector, for multi colour strips you need 4 pin. They are easy to fix, just cut the cable at one of the connector points, peel back about half a centimetre of waterproof gel (don't worry if the white backing comes off with it, as long as the copper stays in place), then slip on the connector and snap shut. I got flexible connectors, which have a connector at each end and 15cm of 4 way cable between. If you plan to run two (or more) separate lengths of strip from a single controller, you will need splitters. Again a mind boggling variety, just make sure you know what you want before buying. Next you'll need to make up a connection between your battery pack and the lights. You'll need to know what type of connector your battery pack has, then search for it on eBay. You'll probably need to solder them on. I tested the lights with the mains adapter first to make sure everything worked, then cut off the connector and soldered on the battery connector, then tested on battery. Batteries? I used a 1300mAh LiPo pack on the kite. I made up a small bag that slips over the spreader and has a couple of velcro pads that secure it onto the spine. I did much the same with the controller. The battery gave about 2 hours flight time with a full 5m length. Bigger batteries are available, but weight will become an issue. and there you have it

The mallet is mine.....
I was going to anchor my kite, but launched the kite from the beach to get it into the air.
I also left my gloves in the car, hence the 'orrible blister....so no salt or vinegar for a couple of days!!!!
