Hi all,
Firstly, I had no idea kite flying was still a thing until about 10minutes ago! (as silly as that sounds)… I caveat that with having seen parafoils galore... but rarely ever a 'proper' kite if you know what I mean.
By way of an introduction, I was introduced to sport/stunt flying between around 1995 up to about 2005. I used to love the HQ kites instructional VHS's of the era... although I doubt I could recreate any of the technical tricks we used to do. I am still a very proud and precious owner of a 7ft Tramontana Tricktana which gets taken for a flight every 2-3yrs still on its 20+ year old lines.
Anyway, I hope I'm not too late to enjoy the sport over again with my kids and quite possibly look forward to perhaps meeting some of you in the near future.
Cheers Aran

Hello Aran, It's never too late to enjoy kite flying! Please do come along to our fly-ins where you will meet people still enjoying the past time who are well into their latter years

Different pilots consider different types of kites to be 'proper' kites. There are some in our club who still fly two line kites, there are others who fly four line kites and even single line kites. A few fly inflatable kites that drag line laundry up into the air. All are kites and all are welcome in Kent Kite Flyers. I'm probably the oldest regular club flyer at 73 and I tend to fly the 'flowforms' with 'line laundry' you mention. Come along to one of our regular fly-ins and introduce yourself.

Thanks gerty, peter, I look forward to popping along. I hope to be able to make it to a fly-in on the 27th if you have one on that day. (I'll try and get some new lines while I'm at it...)

The 27th is down to be the Brogdale Cider Festival where we fly kites to entertain the public. It depends where you live and how far you are prepared to travel as to which fly-in you are prepared to pop to. I suggest you keep an eye on the 'Next Fly-in' page for where we are due to fly at the weekend.

Hi Aran, and welcome.
Yes kiting is still a thing, and yes, some of us fly "sports kites". As Peter said, keep an eye on the next fly in page to find where we are flying. Do come and join us and say hello.
