Well I haven't flown since 3rd January so I need a fix. A northerly is predicted so it's not a good wind for Palm Bay, Walmer would be better.

Thank you for choosing Walmer. I might just make it.
I'll try to give a local weather conditions report on the day, as your forecast and the two I usually look at are quite dissimilar. One of mine says NE or N wind, the other NW, E, , N, SSE, NE. Confused.com. Both agree that it's light rather than gale force. I'll wait for the shipping forecast - that's usually quite accurate, but not long range.

Good morning. Walmer Weather Watch reporting.
Forecast for afternoon. We'll be unlucky if we catch a shower, but there is a vague possibility. 5 or 6C, feeling like 2 or 3C. Wind N or NE. Met Office, including shipping forecast, say 3-4 gusting 5 (14-16 mph, gusting 19-20). BBC says 6-8 mph (force 2). There may be freezing fog inland, although it is clear here.
Observed at 0930. Cloudy with some brightness. No new ice in shallow birdbath but ice tipped out yesterday pm has not yet melted. Very little wind so far as bamboo is only just moving.
Here ends the weather watch from Walmer.

Today was the first decent weather for kite flying this year here in the south east of England so Janet (lighthouseleprechaun), Mike, Gareth, Martin g and myself dusted off the thermals, filled the thermos flasks with hot water and packed copious amounts of cuppa soups and instant coffee. We decided to go to the Borrowpit, Walmer. What a day, sunny with interesting cloud formations and about 36°F but the wind was constant with no lumps in it and about 8-12 mph. I put my new PLK 8² up first closely followed by my midi PLK Trilobite - flew like a dream. Next I put the mini pig on the line for good measure. I made a quick video call to show off to Kent Kite Flyers Southern Hemisphere branch, Pieter Binsbergen in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. We were surprised that we were both suffering exactly the same temperatures 36°......then we remembered that he works in centigrade and we work in farenheit!! Marting put up his Sponge Bob and used it to lift his Garfield and his newly acquired Puppy. Gareth put up some of his well crafted (by him) stick kites and so did Mike. Janet tried out her 1² flowform and a mini sled. We were approached by dozens of the passers by who were full of compliments for our little show. Ahh, we just love pleasing the public.
