Oh that is most annoying as I used them a lot. Looks like I will have to order from China in future, unless some of the zfrench shops are still willing to deal with us.

This may be a temporary state whilst they work out the implications. I posted on Facebook and got a reply that they hope to resume soon and send their apologies.

A quote from the shop
For all UK customers: At the moment we are working on a solution to get shipping to UK work again, but the Brexit made it complicated. There are some things to sort out before we can start shipping to UK again. Best regards, Michael

So its not only British companies who haven't a clue how to deal with the loss of the free-trade area known as the European Union?

I understand it is all yo do with being able to collect and remit vat to HMRC and all the paperwork and fees involved in achieving that. So I can kind of understand why no-one wants to deal with us!

Just tried to place an order with Metropolis Drachen, and got this message
For customers of of UK: Due to the VAT regulations of the Brexit we are not able to send orders with an less amount than net 135 GBP / ~155 EUR yet (may vary depending upon exchange ratio)! Shipping wil be done with Incoterm 20 (DAP, importer pays duties, taxes, customs clearance fee), so you have to pay Duty´s, custom fees and VAT when receiving the parcel.
I'm about 100 euro short of that amount. So, does anyone want anything to help me bump up my order?

I have been following similar threads on model boat forums where people are havin trouble purchasing parts from the EU. It would appear that if the value of the goods is less than £135 the seller needs to register with HMRC for VAT and charge UK VAT at point of sale which is then payed by the seller to HMRC quarterly like any UK business. Sales in excess of £135 attract UK VAT which is payed on delivery usually collected by the courier company, which means no VUK VAT registration required by the seller. Sales in excess of £135 may also attract import duties which again would be collected by the courier along with their admin fees.
This seems to be ok for large companies in the EU but smaller ones are not prepared to pay HMRC to register for UK VAT and are therfore putting a £135 limit on goods to the UK thus placing the VAT collection duties to the courier companies.
Complicated ain't it!
Mike
