The CAA has established a complex of temporary danger areas covering much of the English Channel and extending into Lydd Airport and Folkestone and Hythe. These will be applied whe required between 31st August and 30th September to allow for the operation of unmanned aircraft (drones) for surveillance operations in the Channel operating out of Lydd. The drones are operating out of direct line of sight and are not equipped with avoidance systems, hence the implementation of the danger areas. For our purposes, the key are is centred on Lydd Airport and is a car le with a two nautical mile radius, which therefore embraces the Lade. The other area, whilst in the channel, covers parts of Folkeztone, and just touches land at Hythe. The exclusion zone operates from the ground up to 3000 ft above mean sea level. The full document is attached, on the last page is a map showing the exclusion zones. cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5f4a4ffc2986b/BRIEFING_SHEET_ENGLISH_CHANNEL_V3.pdf

According to Home office documentation this Danger Area Complex was in existance in 1st April - 31st August 2020 as well with drones operating out of Lydd. www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=view&id=852&Itemid=487.htmlDidn't notice any problem last time we flew there although I suspect that at 60 metres we would not be a problem for them anyway. Does this mean that we need to avoid The Lade for the forseeable future? Opinions anyone Mike

Difficult one. The danger areas will only be active when required. The CAA will try to give 24 hours notice via notam, but recommend monitoring various aviation radio frequencies for up to date information.
My view is we should consider Lydd and Hythe off limits for September.
