Well the forecast is for cold but bright weather at the moment, so anyone fancy flying a kite?
Given the likely conditions underfoot (take Woodchurch on New Years Day as an example) I'd suggest we choose somewhere where we aren't likely to get covered in mud... Camber: Sun sea sand café and toilets, but parking can be a bit on the pricey side £3 for 3 hours or £5 for 6 hours) but no mud! Walmer Castle: Wide pebble beach area, and small free (I think) car park, but no facilities Walmer strand: free parking, toilets, fish & chip shops (if open) pebble beach and grass area
Thoughts anyone? Or are we all still in deep hibernation mode?

Quite fancy the idea of flying this week. Following up Gareth's suggestions - According to Google streetview Just Walmer side of the castle on Kingsdown road is a free largish carpark that looks like it has a toilet block at the castle end (where all the motorhomes seem to congregate). This would have access to the beach and would seem to be a good option. The fish & chip shop on the Strand is probably shut on Sundays but last time we flew there on a Sunday the chip shop just beyond the pier in Deal was open so there is that option for those wanting hot food. I would like to suggest that we try the beach near Walmer Castle, not flown there before so it would be somewhere different. Should be dry underfoot if nothing else. Mike

We are possibly talking about the same place though I don't recall a toilet block. Perhaps our local inhabitants could confirm but I'm happy to fly there. I've flown there before with Barry which turned out to be very expensive. You will need to ask me why.

The beach at Walmer is where we shall be holding the one day kite event in May ( I think Sat 28th) as shown on events. The Parish Council did state there is a Toilet Block situated either on the beach or close by.

OK, some confusion here.
Looking at the satellite view, I was thinking of the car park right by the castle I can see that at the bottom of Granville Road there is a small car park with a building beside it Turning left out of Granville Road onto Kingsdown Road there is a large car park on the right (which adjoins the little one).
I assume it is the latter one that you folks are thinking of. Just so we all end up in the same county.

Some local information Confusingly there are three carparks close to Walmer Castle, the one opposite the castle is smallish, gives immediate access to the beach but does get busy with fishermen and dog walkers cars. The next one towards Deal is immediately facing Granville Road but very small. Continuing towards Deal is the third and largest one which does have a toilet block separating it from the second one. This is below beach level so if flying on the shingle cars would be out of sight. All these carparks are free.
The fish and chip shops near the bandstand do not open Sundays but the one on the seafront near the pier is open until 8pm and has a restaurant. The toilets near the Bandstand are open until mid evening.

So, just to recap, Just Mike and Barbara are going to fly at the big car park along with myself. Any other takers?.

The Model Engineers Exhibition must just have been too exciting and exhausted M. Le President. Len appears to have survived the day so hopefully we will join him, Mike and Barbara at currently cloudy, cold, low wind Walmer.
