I've just got off the phone with Alan. Apparently immediately after Portsmouth he was taken into hospital to have a crushed disc removed from his spine. Alan is now out of hospital and convalescing, but has been told he is not allowed to fly kites for at least 6 weeks.
I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

I had a long chat with Allan on the Sunday at Portsmouth. He was in some discomfort then and complaining of feeling freezing cold due to a trapped nerve problem. It was obviously more than that and I was sorry to hear that he has had to have surgical treatment to remove the crushed disc. Hopefully that has been the root cause of all the back problems he has had recently and it will not be to long before he is back on his feet and flying kites again. I have emailed him this morning to wish him well. Mike

For all who are interested I have just received the following from Allan Pothecary "It’s difficult say how I am.
I feel about as rough as I did at Portsmouth but with less energy.
I have started to get the odd, good, couple of hours during the day so I guess the trend is right.
It’s weird – if I do much of anything I start to feel bad. Too much sitting down and I have to get up and walk around. Too much walking around and I have to sit down.
I was given some bad news after the operation – I am not allowed to look up – nor am I allowed to fly kites - for at least another five weeks!!!
We should be in Spain right now but we are not too miffed as at least I am now on the mend – I dread to think what I would be like by now if I had not had the operation! – We just hope the insurance policy pays up OK!"Mike
