Fly-in on Sunday 7th May - Walmer. Weather permitting we will be flying on the beach to the rear of 'The Borrowpit' car park Kingsdown Rd, Walmer. Postcode CT14 7LH or what3words tilts.coolest.breakfast will get you close. The last fly-in before Berck was at Walmer so theoretically we should be scheduled for the West of the county this time. As it's Coronation Bank Holiday weekend will that affect the numbers available to fly? I know of one regular who isn't available. If we chose to go to Tonbridge who would be able to fly there? Is there anything on there that would prevent us flying there? Advice pleaseMike

I'll ask around for you Mike... I also belong to the Tonbridge Facbook page so will enquire there too. Hopefully the field has recovered from the recent flooding!!!

Unfortunately the field is still waterlogged at Tonbridge...
If it stays reasonably dry this coming week it should be ok by next weekend...

Ok with Steve & Sue & Gareth unavailable, and Tonbridge wet underfoot It doesn't make sense going West this weekend. Who would be available to fly at Walmer instead? (Sorry but I don't fancy driving through Margate on a Bank Holiday weekend) Please post here so I can work out if it's worth organising a fly-in this weekend. Mike

Personally I'd prefer Palm Bay as its less hard work than pebbles and Walmer adds another half hour to when I can arrive. Also, apart from one date back in February when the fly-in was called off but Marting, Tim and I went out and braved silly winds, we haven't flown at Palm Bay this year! Nevertheless if it makes people happy I'll do Walmer - again.

I could make it to Walmer.
The weather forecast for Sunday pm isn't great, depending which one you look at. The wind seems acceptable though.

And here is the weather report from almost coastal station Deal/Walmer.
Depending on which source you choose, this afternoon could be mainly cloudy, cloudy with sunny intervals, or fair (that's as good as it gets in the shipping forecast, it just means not raining !). Temperature 13-15C (feels like 12-13), or 15C (feels like 16). Lets just go for 14-15C. Wind ESE or S, or variable, ranging from 5 to 12 mph (force 3 or less) gusting 9-14 (force 4).
From a less professional approach, just now it's not raining, there's no wind, the sky is mostly white or mid-grey, with a very small patch of blue and it's not that cold. The bamboo has a tremor not a wave, but the leafy twigs on the sycamore higher up are just beginning to show signs of movement. I suppose there's a hope of something more than nothing, but just now it really is very windless.
And that concludes the weather report.

Barbara and I were joined by Peter and Martin F on an unusual afternoon on the beach at Walmer. No wind to start with but around 2.30 it arrived and was nice and steady until we left. Janet A popped by to say hello. Like at The Lade the other week there was a nice sea mist that on occasions rolled in over the beach, the sea and horizon disappeared but we were in a little bubble with brightness overhead often even sunshine. We all managed to fly something and were witnesses to a strange phenomenon that I hadn't seen before. With kites and lines being slowly soaked by the mist I experienced droplets of water running down my line and dripping onto my reel, only on my line! On a day when there was no rain and we didn't get even a little damp from the occasional mist it was strange to see so much water running down the line. We packed up and left as it started to get somewhat chilly around 6.00. All in all a good afternoon's flying.
Mike
Next week weather and ground conditions permitting Tonbridge.
