Kite Flyers may be wondering why there has not been any announcement about the August Teston Kite Weekend.
Kent Kite Flyers have been in consultation with Kent County Council about the event for a couple of months. KCC have new management in regard to Teston and have increased their charges to us. They have increased the charge for use of the Teston field and are insisting that any vehicles either on the field or in the car park now pay the daily car parking charges (£1.50 on weekdays and £2.50 per day on Saturday and Sunday). They have also imposed a charge for camping of £7 per unit per day payable to KCC. Despite these charges we would still not have exclusive use of the site.
In order to make a decision on the viability of this event for 2022, KKF need to hear feedback from potential attendees.
DUE TO THE LACK OF INTEREST THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE NOT TO GO AHEAD WITH TESTON THIS YEAR

I will not be attending as we will be getting nothing and paying out a lot of hard earned cash.

I fully understand that KCC have to cover the cost of running a Country Park but I doubt that the event adds much to the work of the rangers we always clear up after ourselves and I am not convinced that we actually bring in many more visitors than would normally use the site. I feel that KCC are just using the kite festival as a way of supplementing their income which has nothing to do with any service they provide. I would be of the opinion that we stop running the event. If KCC want a Kite festival there let them organise it and the Club can charge them for providing the display kites including providing a safe way of flying them keeping the public clear of the flying lines.
