We intend on being there, weather permitting. Feel that we have not been able to support Normans efforts to secure the site for us as much as we should this year. Mike

Mike,
I totally agreed with your comments, but unfortunately as they say "s--- law", we moved Canterbury to the third Sunday of the month , as we had been busy for the last two years on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Then we received lots of invitations as well as festivals for 3rd Sunday of the month this year. Also the weather seems not to be particularly kind on the day

We will be there tomorrow provided its not chucking it down, however it is now looking like we wont be there particularly early. Mike

I'm beginning to feel like a real rebel here......
Am still going to the Bournemouth event..come rain or shine....!!
Forecast - gale force winds reducing as day goes on...occasional heavy showers....Sounds a little like Portsmouth!!!

Well, serves me right!
Got up this morning to find that my Lurgy (nasty cold) had got worse, not better.... Friend in Christchurch rings to inform me that they have thunderstorms and forecast isn't getting any better....
So, I toddle off back to bed...at 6.00am...
Then my friends call me at 2.00pm and hey presto..sunny and windy....very windy....has been lots of cloud but many happy fliers.....Grrrrrrr!
Shall wait to hear from Colin (Solent Flyers) as to what it was really like!!!! I should have called him in the first place.... Live and learn, as they say..

Had a great afternoon at Rough Common. As expected we were late getting away from a very sunny and dry Ashford. Arrived in Canterbury in the middle of a deluge as we drove through Thannington. Arrived at Rough Common flying site to find it dryer than Wincheap but a total absense of Kite Flyers so we went and walked round the woods instead. See you all at Margate next Sat Mike

Sorry you missed us Mike. There were three of us flying - Alvin, Peter and myself - until the rains came and we left about 2.15. The first to arrive got there at 11, Norman had very kindly opened the gate.

Sorry to have missed you all. However we had a very nice walk round the nature reserve somewhere I have not been for more years than I care to remember. Must go back as its a lovely place. When we got back home last night the roads in Ashford were dry, it looked very much as though there had been no rain here either. Never seen quite as much water as was dropping from the sky as we drove through Thannington and down Wincheap, double speed wipers and 20mph seemed way to fast. There were still some people driving without their lights on in conditions that had to be seen to be believed. Keeping fingers crossed that we dont get that next weekend. Mike

You made the right decision, Heather. The rain started at about 9 a.m. and continued with drizzle and heavy showers accompanied by high wind until 2 ish. then a gradual improvement until conditions were really good at about 4 p.m.
This really is a great place for Kiting. Acres of mown grass, Cafe and toilets on site, clearly designated areas separaing single-line from multi-line flyers.
The festival was well organised, with three traders and four food stalls.( No pies, Barry). Arena displays, workshop, Teddy drops.etc.
I think it was a success with a lot of public support, but a shame about the weather
