Ron telephoned me last night, he is not very well. In the past he had suffered prostrate cancer which the consultants thought had been cleared up.
During the last few weeks the consultants have found the cancer has now spread to his hip joint and at the moment Ron has just had the first Chemo treatment. This will go on for about 3 months every 3 weeks or so, when he will have further blood tests to consider if the treatment has had any effect.
He says he is feeling too groggy to send out any Christmas wishes either by e-mail or by post and requested that I pass these on via the forum to members.
He is not answering e-mails at the moment. I will keep in touch with him and as he does not want to be disturbed too often I have agreed I will contact him at the beginning of January.
In the meantime I have given best wishes for a speedy recovery from members.

That's sad news Malcolm. Ron is one of the good ones (also one of the kiting names that I have actually met!) and will be in our thoughts. Hopefully the treatment will work, we will keep our fingers crossed Mike

Ron Dell was one of the founders of Teston and the main organiser for around 20 years. He also with his late wife Pat had their own kite trading under the Named of Kiteability

Ron Dell was one of the founders of Teston and the main organiser for around 20 years. He also with his late wife Pat had their own kite trading under the Named of Kiteability and is one of our life members, having been very supportive of all clubs in his time. Please pass on my best wishes to him as well Malc.

I have spoken with Ron this afternoon ( Saturday) and it is not good news. He went to the consultant earlier this week and has been told that there is nothing they can do for him as the cancer is too far advanced. They have withdrawn all medication and have not given him a forecast of how long he has to be with us.
I would ask that all of you when you read this just give a moment in your thoughts and prayers to wish him as long a life as possible and as little suffering as possible.

Another truly nice guy succumbs to the big c. Very sad indeed. The kiting world is a sadder place but some of us were lucky enough to be touched by his humour and generosity.
Get a different perspective - try KAP

We were so sorry to read about Ron - as many have already said he is one of the good guys in the kiting world, a true gentleman, and our thoughts and prayers are with him.

Just to update on Ron; I spoke with him late this afternoon and the situation is stable at the moment no marked deterioration. He sounded reasonable chirpy. The main problem is that he needs a lift to be able to go out, as he he finds it difficult going up the hill where he lives.
I will be in touch with him again in a few weeks

Simon Hennessey visited Ron last Sunday and says that Ron gets tired quickly.
In himself he was well and as always full of fun but you could see he is suffering

Just to update on Ron, I spoke with him yesterday, he did not say too much about his present condition, other than he tires easily. Obviously the weather is preventing him from venturing out, without the kind assistance of his friend, who are able to take him to the shops.
He talked about booking the Premier at Wateringbury for the June week-end when there soem of the kite flyers will be flying as individuals at Teston. Over the phone it sounded as though his condition is stable at the moment
