Lots of discussion going on over on Facebook about Teston Kite Festivals this year, under the Teston Bridge Picnic Site page.
I'm now confused as to who is organising what, KKF, Malcolm, Jane, Manky Badger or the Grumpy old Gits.

Gareth I heard from Malcolm today. Jane who is drumming up support as you can see from the Faceache chat has been in contact with him and will be feeding back quality & quantity of support to assist KKF being able to run both Teston events. We will have to wait and see what actually happens. Its been interesting sitting on the sidelines following the discussions. I will add my 5pworth as and when I have something constructive to add and when there is something concrete to comment on. Mike

Peterborough Festival is on the Sunday of the proposed Teston June weekend. At the moment, I'm thinking of heading up to the fens.

Sounds like a good idea, could give Winnie a run and get away even if I have to pay camping charges.

The situation about the Teston June event is fluid at the moment, it was in grave doubt, but since Jane contacted me there has been some substantial movement forward. not all of which I am able to discuss on the forum at this time, as I have to discuss with my fellow committee members and it is possible that we shall have to put proposals to members at the AGM to obtain approval about use of club funds.
In regard to the organiser; it is me on behalf of KKF. Jane Gilbert. former park ranger, has recently come on board to assist, as no-one from KKF or Kiteweekenders put their names forward to form an organising committee when I previously posted. There are lot of others posting who have not had the decency to contact me although every-one has my contact details

Don't know whether you are aware but the weekenders have been invited to an event elsewhere and a number are indicating they will go. This may significantly reduce the number of campers at Teston, and therefore the potential camping income.

Malcolm, as ever you have a thankless task! For my part I should say that 'Kite Weekenders' are a group of kite fliers that are linked by use of a kite forum and participate in kite flying weekends and (sometimes) share their experiences, photographs and thoughts with other like minded individuals on-line. I give my limited time in spurts to share things primarily on Kite Weekenders, and as a humble Moderator of Kite Weekenders I wield nothing more substantial than my mouse! Members of Kite Weekenders come from many ‘Clubs’ where committees, AGM’s, funds / costs / grumpys exist but that’s a different ball game and far more time consuming! "I was recently contacted by our regular camping site, Sumners Ponds to put on a kite display in June, unfortunately the date they had already organised was also the Teston weekend! To save being repetitive all relevant info is on the Forum here: www.kiteweekenders.proboards.com/thread/2062/sumners-ponds-specialIts a real shame that the dates clash, a lot of people are 'sitting on the fence' to see what happens to Teston and others are going to Peterborough, so nobody is committing to anything. As far as I am concerned I will be going to Sumners Ponds BUT that in no way reflects a dislike for Teston its just a no brainer for me as its local, definite, free and ticks all the boxes that Teston is not able to do at the moment. Decisions have to be made."

A decision was reached at the Kent Kite Flyers AGM not to fund the June event at Teston,. This was taken by our members after presentation of the costings and other factors were taken into consideration. I have informed KCC of our decision and have cancelled the event
August Teston will be going ahead and I am endeavouring to persuade Kent County Council to allow camping from the Thursday.
I would remind members of KKF that this tab is an open to general view. I have also put a similar posting in the members section

With the event getting closer by the day do we know if the building work will be finished and the site cleared of workmen and equipment. Can we park on field if the work is not finished and will there still be camping as at the June last fly-in the entrance was fenced off and the area by the bridge out of use leaving about 2/3rd of the site usable.

Daved, Sorry missed this posting. The work at Teston by the river is not expected to finish by the time of the August Teston Kite Fest. It will be pretty much as you saw it in June except that the entrance to the site will be adjusted to allow access for vehicles for camping and day visitors i.e kite flyers. There will be an adjustment as to where we normally park, but I will have to gauge it next week when I do a site visit and on the Friday before when I will be on site for campers and traders
