9.15 am Weather report from Deal/Walmer.
Early thunder moved away. Rain currently stopped. Overcast sky breaking, big patches of blue appearing. Met Office say 10% chance of rain most of day, rising to 50% around 3.00 p.m. to 5 p.m. then back to 10%. Wind WNW NW NNW 13-14 mph, stronger gusts.
Meteogroup say high % chance of showers all day. Let's believe the Met Office !
Hope to be there from a sensible time, for flying before the rain starts.
Lighthouse Janet

Interesting but fun afternoon at Walmer today. Arrived in the car park only to be addressed by the driver of a car that followed us in making comments about my derierre (turned out to be Janet but was flattering none the less) Jo & Martin with their two grandchildren had kites in the air and Gareth was launching a large lifter. We had our obligatory cup of coffee and were joined by local Sandra who had asked for help learning how to fly kites. Back to the car to find kites and found one for her to fly. The wind was playful and the clouds decided we were to dry so remedied the situation by dumping a considerable amount of rain on us all. Coats & umberellas were duly found and as the rain subsided kites were back in the air (Sandra continued flying with a huge smile on her face despite having no coat!) Both of my chairs contained puddles and my kitebag was seriously damp, it didn't last for long thankfully and apart from a light damping later we remained mostly dry and managed to put on a reasonable show for the attendees of a small engagement party who had set up alongside the path behind us. Many appreciative comments from various people during the afternoon and as the evening arrived we packed up leaving the revellers to enjoy their festivities on the beach. Highlight of the day for me was Sandra's beaming face as she managed to keep her new kite in the air and the sheer delight in her voice when we said she was welcome to join in with us next time we visit Walmer. She walked back to her flat with blue fingers, a kite under her arm and a huge smile on her face. Definitely flying for fun. Many thanks to Jo, Martin, Tallulah, Herbie, Lighthouseleprechaun-Janet, Bazjan-Janet & Gareth who helped make the afternoon fun and the sky a little more colourful. Mike

I don't think I have heard quite so much laughter from lady flying a kite in the pouring rain
