Another tentative event in the planning stages, but one to mark in your diaries is Blackheath Kite Day on Sunday 10th October. Details are sketchy at the moment, but will be provided in due course. There will be some parking available.

This is now a confirmed event. We are still working on the fine details. We will have an arena area to fly from, and will probably have our gazebo adjacent to the arena, from which we will be able to sell kites. There will be free parking allocated to us adjacent to the arena, I will post details in the members only area. Details are still being finalised, so keep an eye on here and I will post them as I get them

With a bit of luck, the attachment should be a map of the proposed field layout for Blackheath Kite Day, showing the allocated parking for Kent Kite Flyers, on what used to be a school playground I believe, and also the flying arena. Parking is accessed from Goffers Road, turning right into Talbot Place. For What3Words users ///match.thus.tonic will get you close. I am hoping that anchor sacks will be placed in the arena for our use (the 1 ton bulk bag type)

That Arena seems a Tad small.

That Arena seems a Tad small. Well, I reckon we can probably fit 8/9 stacks of kites in there. And as we are the only ones using it, how much space fo we need? We're not proposing any 2/4 line demonstration flying in there.

Would definitely be up for this. Not flown at Blackheath for many years. No 2 or 4 line? I was kinda hoping to premier a Merry/Jones 'Wind Curtain' installation.

Tim, there is plenty of space outside the arena, its just that the arena space is a little restricted.

The wind curtain is actually a static lifter kite, but it needs a fair of space to launch as you need to use full-length lines. Would be good to do as I believe it's never been done before. Although there are old photos showing what Ray Merry had proposed, if you read the accompanying text, it seems that the pics were 'comped' together (this was 20 years before Photoshop, remember!). Still not sure what I'm use for the 'curtain', it will need to be some kind of mesh. If I could pull it off, it would be quite 'newsworthy'!

The event will run from midday until 3 pm, but we will have access from 10:30 am. Parking will be available in Talbot Place, but in order to park there, I will need vehicle registrations of those wishing to attend. We will be selling kites from our gazebo, so any help to set up and clear away will be gratefully received. We will have an arena set up adjacent to Talbot Place from which to fly large show kites. I am hoping to have anchor bags in the arena for our use. The rest of the heath is available for flying as well, though we have been asked not to get too close to the A2. Height clearance has been requested from the CAA, which will need to be strictly adhered to due to the proximity of London City Airport.
The club will be able to offer a contribution towards travel costs for members attending.
