Weather permitting this coming Sunday 9th May we will be flying beside the Sunken Garden, Royal Eaplanade, Westbrook, Margate, Kent. Postcode CT9 5EN will get you close. Users of What3words squad.roosters.pest will get you there. Initial forecast isn't very promising but there's time for things to improve. Keeping fingers crossed that it will be ok, will post an update closer to the day. Mike

If I'd been asked I would've put Palm Bay as an option but only those at the previous fly-in get a say, shame. Just 2.5 miles between the sites and Palm Bay is much better for kite flying and interacting with the public. I have been flying at Palm Bay for most of the lockdown and I'll be there on the 9th, weather permitting. You could come and join me.....

Users of What3words squad.roosters.pest will get you there. Choose the one for Westgate on Sea, rather than Rajasthan or Kansas 😂

It has been suggested that we change venue this Sunday and fly at Palm Bay instead of St Mildreds Bay. I am happy to change to Palm Bay if that is ok with the rest of you. Please advise Mike

The Sunken Garden is the better choice for me as it has toilets nearby. Palm Bay might be a better site but relies on the generosity of the cafe owners to allow us to use their toilet, which they cannot do with the current restrictions. Last time we were there during the previous lockdown the toilets I found were locked and I ended up having to go to the block by Margate railway station, a round trip which took around an hour as I struggled to find an empty on-street parking space

The nearest public toilets are at Botaney Bay (portaloos), the harbour arm or the beach. Mollies Bar at St. Mildreds Bay confirm that their toilets are not open to the public either and the nearest public toilets are the ones on Margate beach. As neither location offer adjacent toilets I would suggest that Thanet is a no-go for those that need toilets immediately to hand.

Weren't there public toilets in, or adjacent to the public carpark in St. Mildreds bay?

There are some over the little footbridge, they were open last year but no idea if they still are.

I've just been trying to get some sense out of Thanet District Council over the phone; they are about as useful as a snowball in a furnace! All they will say regarding St. Mildreds is 'there are public toilets available on the main sands, Margate'. I guess we all will have to decide where we want to fly according to our needs. As I said earlier, and I have no wish to influence any others, I fly regularly at Palm Bay. Many locals (and visitors) look forward to seeing the kites on a Sunday and some bring their own kites along so I personally will be flying there. Should anyone else feel so inclined they are welcome to join me.

If Palm Bay is preferred by those intending to fly on Sunday then the club must go with the majority decision

If anyone is flying down at Palm bay tomorrow, please fly a kite in remembrance of my brother whose 5 year anniversary is coming up this week. His ashes were scattered a while later at Palm bay as you may remember. I will personally be going there with some kites later this month to spend some quiet time.
