After two rubbish weekends we must surely be due a good one!
As Malcolm reminded us the other day October 11th is One Sky One World, often called International Kite Day. For those new members that don't know, The One Sky, One World Kite Fly for Peace was born out of the Cold War, when a kite featuring American and Soviet flags on each side of a globe was presented to Russian officials by an American dignitary. The kite was received as a symbol of global peace and understanding, and the event has been celebrated across the world 2nd weekend in October ever since.
The aim is to fly as many kites as we can in the afternoon to join kite flyers all round the world in proving that we all share the same world and sky.
We have members in the east of the county who cannot get over to the west due to work commitments. My idea this year is that we hold a socially distanced OSOW fly in two locations, Palm Bay in the East of the county and Tonbridge in the West. This will allow all of our members who wish to fly as a part of this great international kite fly for peace can do so.
Barbara & I will be at Tonbridge, I suspect that Peter, Ivan & Jacky plus others will cover the Palm Bay location.
If you are going to attend either location please remember the rule of 6 and do not gather in groups larger than 6 in number keeping the 2 metre social distance at all times, and if we appear to be attracting a large crowd don't be afraid of bringing the kites down and walking away.
Wherever you fly stay safe.
Mike :?)

I intend to have a fly at Palm Bay tomorrow depending on the weather.
Those at Tonbridge Park may have a Steve Davis come along about 1pm. he has indicated an interest in joining KKF, so far no follow up> I have informed him that a few members might be gathering at Tonbridge tomorrow subject to weather and socially distancing.

What a fabulous if somewhat chilly afternoon at Tonbridge. Barbara & I arrived to find the sky full of kites and a good number of kite flyers. We had a couple of loose groupings to keep the group numbers down and were socially distanced throughout. I lost count of the number of kites flown but we managed to put on a good display with kites changing regularly. One gentlemn cycled out of his way to thank us for the display and may photos were taken by the public. The black threatening clouds failed to drop their load and we remained dry all afternoon. Thanks to all who turned up, good to see Gerty and Jacqui once again, thanks James for joining us from the big smoke and welcome Steve who joined us for the first time expressing an interest in joining the club, hopefully we will see you again soon. I hope our other fly-ins at Palm Bay and Eastbourne were as successful. Mike Thought we might try The Lade, Lydd on Sea next week 18th Oct However the temporary danger areas in the channel have been imposed from 1st October to 30th November due to drone flights from Lydd airport so we should probably avoid this. Open to suggestions for an alternative as the KKF county tour continues its journey back towards the East.

Really lovely to get out into the fresh air again and remember what kiting is all about. Thanks for all the help and friendship. Looking forward to next time. ( and promise to stand in 1 spot and not attempt to take everyone out.) ;-)

Well done to members who turned out at Tonbridge, not so lucky with the weather in Palm Bay, wind was about 20 mph and it was chilly. it was so cold that I gave up after 90 minutes or so having managed to fly one Kite, the weather not conducive to flying sparred kites. Although Peter, young Jackie perserved, whilst her Dad Ivan having launhed a lifter with kite laundry took shelter in his car. Ihave no idea what our tally was of kites flying at Palm Bay..
