Teston Kite weekend 11/12th August 2018

Arrangements have been finalised for the annual sojurn to Teston Country Park, just off the A 26 between Maidstone and Wateringbury. Those who wish to camp may arrive on Friday from just before lunchtime and stay to Monday 13th noon. Cost of camping the same as in previous years £10 per pitch for up to 4 persons which goes towards the cost of the weekend. Please note that the gates to Teston Country Park are on a combination lock and I will be given thE codes nearer the date. Top gate is to be kept locked,whilst the bottom gate is opened by the ranger in the morning around 8am and locked around 8pm at this time of year. The gate to the field is kept closed and should be locked when not in use, we need to make sure no itinerants, gain entry. The public are not allowed vehicle access to the field, and we should discourage ball games whilst kites are flying, and ensure no member of the public sets up in the middle of the field. there will be notices erected on the FRiday around the entrances to the field.
Access to water supply and toilets 24/7.

Flying on both days officially commences at 11am until 5pm height clearnace during those hours only 1000ft.

No vehicle movements during the flying hours except in an emergency when a member of KKF should be contacted to arrange an escort off the field.

There is hot food caterer booked for both days and attendance confirmed today.

I will be circulating a poster to KKf members in due course to be printed off and if they could promote use these to promote the event.

As you know Portsmouth International Festival was ousted from their Bank Holiday weekend and decided to move the date to the same weekend as Teston.

The forecasters cannot decide on this weekends weather, some say it will dry and sunny, other say it with showers, and I believe that the odd thunderstorn has been mentioned. Whatever let us hope for wind and be able to enjoy flying kites as well as the odd chinwag and picnic.

If it's like most Teston weekends it will be the many chinwags and the odd kite fly!!!

For once we had almost perfect weather at Teston on Saturday and Sunday, after the downpour on Friday. Thank you for all members who came along and supported the event, perhaps not as many as expected, but nonetheless there was good feedback from the ranger and public and also campers who help to make the event. Now a three week break until next event at beginning of September. On Saturday a new member joined KKF, Martin Griggs from Gillingham, and immediately involved himself with the flying and everything else happening, including the rescuing of Peter H's kite from burying itself in the trees. Also good to have a visit from Peter Reeves, one of our more elderly members whose health has not been good recently.
