The Clerk at Walmer Parish Council is putting the event on their website and passing the information onto the Community website administrator, so hope fully word gets around. I have stated that it is weather dependent on the day, but we shall be gathering from around 3pm. The Facebook event has been posted on both Deal & Walmer's Facebook pages

Wow Kent Kite Flyers certainly know how to Light Up The Sky! What an evening! Last year no wind at all, this year two years worth of wind on one evening! Kites being blown all over the sky, crashing into the ground, breaking spars, damaging sails! But overall putting lights in the sky for a change. Reasonable turnout from Walmer residents on a cold and blustery evening. Anyone know how much we raised? Thanks to all who came along and made it such a good event. Mike

Thanks to all the members who came along, at some cost to some due to broken/smashed kites. Janet has the.monies and no doubt will update when she has had time to count it. No doubt it is washing and shopping day for her today after returning from holiday late yesterday afternoon.

Yes - you were right Malcolm about the washing & shopping but still managed to count all the pennies in the bucket and I sent £162.89 to Children in Need yesterday afternoon. There is a further £25 to be forwarded making a great total of £187.89. If Steve P (or anyone else ) can get the amount to the programme producers for a mention on the day that would be great. The special credit slips at the Bank only have room for the donor's name. Although Barry & I arrived at the end of the flying by which time the wind seemed to be behaving itself, it was great to see so many kites in the sky and members of the public stopping to talk and make donations. Well done to all who braved the cold evening. Janet PS Am awaiting a reply from Dover DC re locked loos.

Thanks again to all members who came along and to the public for their generosity on the night, I believe this may be our best total raised for Children in Need so far.

For all of those inconvenienced on Sunday we have an apology from Dover DC. Apparently the contractors decided to lock up early - the closing time currently remains at 9pm.
From a date soon to be announced new hours will be 6pm in winter and dusk in summer but should we wish to have another night fly there and let the Council know in advance, they will arrange for the toilets to be kept open longer.
Our contact at Dover DC is Barry Finch.
