Good afternoon all. I was amazed to find that a group and website for kite flying actually exists. I do have a stunt kite that I've had for a few years and have only flown it once. I am not an expert by any means but around 10 years ago I was given a stunt kite by my works and found to my amazement how relaxed I felt when I got it in the air. Sadly that kite fell to bits on me and I replaced it with a much smaller one. As I say, I have flown it once. I retire next year, and haven't many plans for such an event so was very pleased to find the website. I will attend a kite flying session, but with work now seeming to get in the way, I will look to the near future and come and meet up. I look forward to that day.

Hi Len, thanks for getting back. I live in Hillborough just outside of Herne Bay. Unfortunately, I can tell you now, next weekend has already been taken up. In fact Summer has already been taken up with a whole host of things. Children/Grandchildren and various other. As I say I am retiring next year and that work seems to be getting in the way, but Lord, is time flying. I will make an appearance, rest assured. But as and when? Once again, thank you for getting back. I intend to peruse the website fully soon as to finding out various things. Keep in touch, you never know, one day I may say 'see you there'.

Hi Dave welcome to the forum I'm based in Faversham I make it to most of the fly-ins at Brogdale and others around the county though now on a more limited income travel is some times curtailed. We held a festival in Herne Bay last year sadly it is not happening this but you never know it may reappear if the locals want it. Over the Summer many of the club travel to festivals up and down the country, outside of the festival season we meet most Sunday afternoons keep an eye on the fly-in thread to see where we will be.

Dave,
Welcome to the forum for Kent Kite Flyers.
I am the secretary and community liaison/ event co-ordinator.
I know the feeling in regard to children and grandchildren, we have a large extended family mostly spread locally in Thanet and around Hastings, as well as family in Scotland. Since I retired a couple of years ago, I feel as though I do not know how I found time for work. That all being said, I do enjoy my days with the Kent Kite Flyers when I get the opportunity to go out and fly. If we are going out of county to an event/festival we try to arrange for members to travel together, to share costs.
We enjoy the kiteflying and socialising, even if at times the weather is against flying. We are also becoming known as the kite picnickers. WE like to include family members even if they are non-flyers.
We have several members who fly two line kites, although predominately members fly single line attractive kites mainly for display to the public as well as for their own enjoyment.
At this time of year it is very busy with several festivals back to back as well as events where KKF are invited to attend. You will find each week a posting in fly-ins if we are having a fly within Kent, and also under events where we may be attending including festivals as mentioned by Len(rokbottom) Brighton over the coming weekend. Some of our members attend for the whole weekend and camp, whilst others such as myself go for the day.
Should you consider joining Kent Kite Flyers as a paid up member at this time of year we would offer you membership up to the end of 2017 for the price of one years membership, single £12 p.a family for up to 4 persons £18 p.a. Included in this membership is that when you fly with club you would be insured, there is a quarterly club magazine, and some of the kite traders will offer a discount on purchases. We can also arrange individual insurance at an additional cost, which would cover you when flying alone or at any event which is not considered a club event.
Mostly it is about flying together and having fun as our motto states "Fly for Fun"
Hope to meet up with you somewhere during the year.
ps we have a weekend event over 13/14th August at Teston Country Park, just off the A26 between Maidstone and Wateringbury. Please see our forum for updates.

Hi Dave,
I'm Gareth and I'm a kiteaholic. But they say that admitting it is half of the cure!
Just got back from the second Bognor Regis Kite Festival, where I'm glad to say that the day trippers who attended on Saturday got it completely wrong. Sunday was fine, sunny warm with a good, reasonably stable breeze (once you'd got above the trees. It can't have been bad cos my little celtic knot kite had its second flight and ended up pushing 500ft of line.
That's probably it for my weekends away this year though, apart from Dieppe, in September, its day trips only now.

Hello Malcolmf, It was good to know that I am not alone in this area. I may be able to get to Teston Park on the 14th of August. Saturdays are mostly occupied for me as I am an avid supporter of my home town's football club. I try to get to home matches but as yet have no fixture list. My club being Dartford FC. So I cannot commit to the 13th yet. But thanks for letting me know, I am looking forward to it. Dave

Dave, We have a few members dotted around this part of Kent, from Ramsgate up to Faversham, and the obviously further afield even down into East Sussex. Hope you are able to make Teston at least on the Sunday. Malcolm

Hi all. Was really looking forward to today. Both I and my wife were going to come along, as I have been off work since Thursday on holiday. But of course 'well made plans' and all that. Even got the Kite ready with a long awaited dust off. Sorry gentlemen, but no one's more disappointed than me. Hope to see a few of you soon.

Hi Dave
Just in case you have not seen it on our forum, Kent Kite FLyers will be supporting The Capstone Festival at The Capstone Country Park, Capstone Road Chatham. This is a free event for the public and the official timings is 11am to 4pm. Perhaps you will have time to come along and meet some of our members who are attending. I will be in assisting in the selling of kites, which Medway Council have requested KKF to arrange as there was no trader avaiable to come along to Kent for the day.

Hi Dave,
Following up on your interest in Kent Kite Flyers, I have taken the opportunity last night of sending an e-mail from my personal e-mail address (fordcoastguard@..... with an application form for membership attached, as it is nearly the new membership year commencing at the beginning of January. As has been mentioned any-one kiteboarding, kite surfing kite buggying etc, cannot be covered under the club insurance as thus are classified as extreme sports.
It is hoped that you firm up your interest by joining Kent Kite Flyers as a full member.
Best wishes
Malcolm
