Warning to all kiteflyers heading for Rough Common this weekend from the west of the county. There are emergency roadworks at the bottom of Wincheap (A28) by the railway bridge by Canterbury East Station. Traffic lights have caused long queues along Wincheap this week due to a gas leak. Beaware the possibility of long queues & heavy traffic, could well be worth looking for an alternative route to avoid Wincheap. Mike

Anyone order any wind for today?

Given the lack of wind and the many things I need to catch up with at home...thought I'd give it a miss. Jigsaw family were there at 10.30 and left at 12.00 as no-one was there...don't know if they went back or not?

I was held up by the road works and arrived at 12.30 just behind Bill. Barbara and Mike then Steve also Ron and John then Gareth arrived but the wind that may have been ordered didnt, but it was nice and sunny and warm.

Note....
New members need to be told what time to arrive at Fly-ins and other events....
Tis easy to assume that everyone knows....I am as guilty as anyone!!!

11am was always the start time. I can remember at merton Farm at our original flying site, if yo u arrived much later than this you would have a job to park as there were about 20 cars/members flying. Does your new Family want to beat my offer on Steves sewing machine and then they can make Kites.

You know that, I know that....but new members don't. And anyway, no-one was there at 11.00! Not a complaint, just something to bear in mind in the future to make the newbee's feel more welcome... Sewing machines already bought and kites being made...put's me to shame...

As far as I am aware there is no strict start/end time. People turn up when they want to or can, and leave when they want to or need to. Hence why I arrived at about 2 and Bill left at about 3:30.

Again, I know that and you know that....
Just want to make sure that we don't leave newbees feeling lost and abandoned on their first ventures to meetings...
Hope that Malcolm will be able to let them know in his messages...

Malcolm can put an "official" start time in his message. What Malcolm can't do is say whether anyone is going to turn up and if so when. So what I'd suggest is that they take a peak here to find out who is planning to go and if necessary post a question along the lines of "what time are people planning to get there?"

I think I've made something bigger out of this than it needed to be...That was not my intention....Just that perhaps when people first start getting info about fly-ins etc. it should be made clear that we are a very casual bunch etc... Anyway, no harm done... So onwards and upwards as we like to say!!!

Gerty
Useful comment, as you say those who do fly on Sundays just know most times members will turn up at their own times. A pity that our friends from Tunbridge Wells may have had a wasted journey
