I have heard unofficially that the Rencontres International de Cerf Volants will be held from 23rd April to 1st May. Well it sounds like a good place to spend my 67th birthday. I believe they are awaiting confirmation from the mayor, but if anyone would like to come and celebrate my birthday with me, I'm taking tentative bookings.

OK. These dates are now confirmed, and have managed to annoy a number of kite flyers. The problem being that the festival in Cervia, Italy is traditionally the last week of April. This puts 2 of Europe's largest festivals in direct conflict. Apparently this decision has been made by Berck's mayor without consulting anyone else, including Gérard Clement, the festival organiser.
Ho hum. French politics eh. I can't see the dates being changed, so I plan to ho out from Wednesday and returning on the Monday.

Much as I would like to meet up with the military gentleman again we have to decline your kind offer. Assorted health problems this year would make travel insurance unavailable or far too expensive. We wish all who are able to attend a great stay with Jurgen and a fantastic festival.

Some information for all those travelling to Berck this year, or indeed planning to drive anywhere into Europe.
The EU are introducing new entry requirements on all non-EU citizens entering the Shengen area. The requirement is that all will have to go through a biometric scan on entry. This is the same as happens at airports where you have your passport scanned and your face scanned to match against the data held on the passport chip. The issue is that sea ports are not currently equipped to do this and it is likely that all vehicle occupants will have to leave the vehicle to go through the process. No one knows the likely impact on port delays, but to say that the owners of Dover are concerned would be an understatement.
Keep an eye on the news as this seems to have slipped under the radar.

I also read somewhere that there will be a requirement to prove full vaccination status including booster but not sure if this will be a requirement or only something they were thinking of. Mike

An update for those travelling or intending to travel.
The hotel we use is now full. Simon has already booked his crossings, taking the 2.20pm train out and the 2.20pm train back. I will aim to book on the same trains. Anyone wishing yo drive down with us in convoy should do likewise. That will get us into Berck at about 5pm allowing for the 1 hour time difference, so the parking in the town should be easing. We should arrive back in the UK at about 2pm on the Monday.
