It is with great sadness I pass on the news that Ray Bethell has died.
For those who do not know of him, Ray was a great kite ambassador from Canada. His trademark routine was flying three kites to the music of "Wind Beneath My Wings". Many have imitated, but none have achieved the level of perfection of Ray, in my opinion. And bear in mind, he was totally deaf! For many years he was a regular fixture at kite festivals across the world. I met him several times in Berck, and you couldn't wish to meet a more generous warm and enthusiastic man. He would spend hours on the beach perfecting his routine. He hasn't travelled for several years due to his health.
There is a big hole in the kite world today. The wind is truly beneath his wings today.

I saw the news on facebook, truly a sad day. I never had the opportunity to meet him,but did see him from afar some years back I think at Berck-sur-Mer. R.I.P, Ray, you have left a legacy for which kiteflyers and many of the public wo saw and met with you will be forever thankful.

A massive loss to the kiting world. I too have never met him, but was fortunate to send him some Joel Sholtz Ketrals that he flew when we had stock left when we closed our shop. R.I.P to a man who has given so many inspiration.
