Once again we are fast approaching our evening for flying lighted kites in raise funds, along with other kite groups in the UK for Children in Need(CIN)
Light up the Sky(LUTS) will be once again held on the Green at Walmer,Nr.Deal close to the bandstand.
The actual date will be decided in the week beforehand, according to the best day weather wise. Obviously the Sunday it will be darker earlier as clocks will be going back at 2am in the morning.
I understand the local chippie is open on both days with great tasting food to warm us up.
We normally gather around 3pm, and fly until such time as it becomes too chilly to carry on. Not only lights on kites, but hopefuly lights on the ground. Local public have been generous over the years contributing monies. Please note that we do not apply for additional height clearance for the evening, due in part to its a movable date.
Updated nearer the date

Hi Sue If you read the description of the event on Facebook it does say that it is weather dependant and may be held on the 28th, however you do need to click through to the event page to see this. I cannot see any way of adding the alternative date to the event without adding a second event that I think could be very confusing. Mike

By putting it as either date on the weekend it gives the option should the weather be too inclement on the Saturday. It is difficult to find a date in advance of C.I.N., as the there is Bonfire night being held on the first Sat/Sunday in November, followed normally the following weekend by rememberance services and marches. And it is normally getting a lot colder around that time especially on C.I.N night and weekend. Will look at weather forecast in the week preceeding.

SO at the moment the Facebook event says there are 151 going and 1400+ interested!!!! Lets hope for good weather on 27th. Each time someone shares the event I try and warn them that the event is weather sensitive and may at short notice be moved to 28th. I may have missed a few though as my phone does not always let me do that.

As they say Houston we have a problem for LUTS at Walmer Green.
I received a message via Walmer Parish Council from Dover District Council, I made contact immedicately by e-mail, but did not receive a reply until late yesterday afternoon. In which they required a notification of an event for use of the land (which is under DDC. Having looked into this to-day I find that they may require a fee of at least £48 and maybe as much as £178 for use of the land, which make the entire LUTS at Walmer completely unsustainable. I have no idead how they found out about LUTS
I have sent a message to the contact at Dover for clarity in regard to charging aa fee, but we may need to look urgently at another venue.
Will update on Monday hopefully when I have received a reply

This could have happened anywhere we hold such events including OSOW and we could also find ourselves in difficulty for not having a street collection permit.
Would be better to name them fly-ins on any public forum.

No, street collections are managed and licenced by local authorities.....including those held outside supermarkets etc...
A blind eye often occurs with events like Children In Need but the BBC advises that such licences should be obtained....
