We seem to be struggling to get a decent number of flyers together at the moment. I know we all have lives outside of kite flying, and some of us are getting on a bit, but the last couple of fly-ins I've been able to attend have been very poorly attended (me and one other on three separate occasions). So what do we need to do to get folks off their sofas and out in the fresh air?
We try to have a casual fly in every week. Time was when we used to have a monthly fly in at a regular site (in Canterbury). The casual fly ins started as a small affair, just a few of us deciding to go somewhere and fly. Then we opened it up to all members. But if we are all being overtaken by swathes of apathy, perhaps we should consider going back to a single monthly fly in?
What do people think?

Gareth,
I think this year there have been a lot of personal things for members which has affected their attendance. Obviously having a regular venue once a month on the same Sunday in each month would give all those that wish to fly a date to put in their diary, but where with facilities would be the next step ( but soem are not always available)
Also it would not stop members posting each week if they intended to fly and where as we do now, so others could join in if they so wished to travel.
My other point is that some members do not or can afford to travel each week to fly-ins.
So we shall see what other members have to say on the matter

We do try and attend as many Sunday fly ins as we can, but with a lot of other events on, we normally choose those that we can spend a whole weekend away and make use of our camper van. A regular monthly fly sounds good in theory, but where would it take place, as we all know, members live in a all parts of kent and sussex , who gets to decide where it will be ?. Another thing that happens is that members state they are coming along to the fly in , and then on the day they do not appear, so perhaps that is why sometimes the attendance is not very big. In my humble opinion,it is not apathy, it is lives outside kiting, other hobbies, and the fact that several events take place in a short space of time. Sue

Ah come on... Even I'm getting out a bit more these days! Not disparaging any member, but it does appear that in the main there are not as many turning up to fly-ins as in the past, and not many members joining in the suggestions for fly-in venues, such as for 22nd July, where possible we have been trying to alternate betweeen West, East and mid kent.

Does a member wish to take on the responsibilty of co-ordinating fly-ins and or making a decision as to where to fly each week, including getting together a venue for a club monthly fly, as I have sufficient to do on behalf of KKF and its members.

Sue I think most of what Sue says are my thoughts. Leave it as it is or you may well upset the apple cart. At last count I have 4 Hobbies to fit in my Diary. I could be Sailing this very Sunday at Bluewater, Sunday 22nd we can fly at Woodchurch as the Cricket Team are Away. Len.
