I provisionally set the date for this years Light Up The Sky, in aid of Children in Need, as Saturday 28th October, primarily as on the Saturday the fish and chip takeway opposite the flying area is open( not Sundays) and is always warming after the event. Also it has been a difficult one to set a date. For some years we flew on the Sunday after Children in Need appeal on T.V on the Friday, then moving to Saturday. The problem is that it does not allow KKF to submit how much is collected and therefore get at least a mention on the tag line at bottom of the screen of donations to C.I.N.
Moving to the preceeding weekend, the Sunday is normally Rememberance Sunday, and obviously Walmer would have some sort of parade.
Going back to The weekend before is normally Guy Fawkes and Firework displays, so eventually the date was agreed to be the last weekend in October.
KKF have flown LUTs on Walmer Green in front of the bandstand for numerous years, but never really fixing a final date until closer to C.I.N to try to allow for weather conditions, although members have turned up in half a gale, soaking rain and no wind but cold.
Having been at OSOW yesterday, it does appear we may be down on numbers who would be able to attend on Saturday 28th October, as the Mike, Barbara, Stephen Palmer have a family celebration to attend, Barry and Janet, are away. I am committed elsewhere for the Saturday.
So the questions is should we move the date, or are there sufficient members able to attend and fly kites on 28th to make it worthwhile.
Initially my thoughts are to move to Sunday 29th October, as that is the first Sunday after clocks go back, so it will be darker earlier.
Look forward to colleagues comments
