How come they have changed the public entrance? No idea, I presume that we can still go up as usual the track further on from the ski centre, no one I can contact today, so will have to suck it and see tomorrow. I believe the public has always gone in via the ski centre in the past. In answer to Len's comment, we have no control over the event, except for the kites, I have already made my concerns known about the effect the hovercraft had on the public kite flying area and over officious stewards, stopping the public flying where the stalls are arranged, as well as stating that the stewards were not up to the job last year in controlling the public within the kiters flying area.

How come they have changed the public entrance? There is no change we always use what is called the Ski Centre entrance you just don't turn into the Ski Centre car park and go straight up the hill!!!

Thanks Gareth - we did. The entrance was the same as usual, no problems getting on the field, all areas were well marked and, where necessary, taped off. The marshals appeared to be well instructed - a great improvement on last year. Our flying area was a good size and well used by lots of assorted inflatables. It was good to see our friends from Essex Kite Flyers and to welcome Simon & Laura two of our newest members. A lovely warm & sunny day (apart for those under the gazebo) but with, at times, the erratic wind often around this year. Hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.

Yes indeed a great day at Capstone. With the wind in the direction it was the revised layout worked well and allowed interaction along the arena fence line with the public. Everone I spoke to seemed to be having a good time and were very interested in how the kites worked especially those requiring a pilot kite. Good to see all the invited kite flyers although a points deduction for Mr Fletcher for not being in uniform. However great thanks to him for allowing us to fly Tommy the tiger from his lifter, so maybe he deserves those points back. Good to see Simon and Laura, hope to meet up with them again. Hoping that a little of Laura's enthusiasm might just rub off on some of us old codgers. From a personal point of view I couldn't fault the day, everything that was wrong about last time seemed to have been fixed. Mike PS: The rangers found a kite that had flown over the trees and were unable to find its owner. It was a large bamboo and dark coloured paper fighter kite with a white crescent on the front. They were going to put it in their store. So if anyone is missing a kite you know where it is.

Many thanks to every-one who came along and supported the event, especially Frank, Daphne, Ernie and Sandra from Essex Kite Group. Good to meet Simon and Laura and hope we will meet Simon's wife Olga in the future. The event was deemed very succesful by Medway Events Team ably led by Amy. If only every Capstone Festival had the same weather and the wind.
The only disappointment for me, was not having the opportunity to have a fly- I know every-one else was glad I was not doing so.
I believe Brighton Kite Flyers was invited, but over the last couple of years appear not to support this event.
As for the kite found, the description seems that it could be one of Dr.Azhar Mir kites, who it was good to see with his son, as he has been absent from meets and events due to a major operation earlier in the year.

Am pleased that it all went well and everyone enjoyed this year's event.
Unfortunately I missed out due to a very painful knee (not the usual one) which stopped me from driving........
Hope to see you all somewhere this weekend..

I hope Dr Mir is much better. I did wonder why we hadn't seen him. Dr Mir looked well and said he was, but I think son comes with him to keep an eye on his dad.

I saw Dr Mir flying a kite in the public arena which seems to match the description of the one found.

I was the last to arrive as I understood that 10.30 was the arrival time - my only excuse is the cold I caught during the lead-up week which turned what little brain I have to jelly. Malcolm was a few days behind me with the cold so I applaud him for the effort he made, it could not have been easy. Over the last few festivals he has found his bag of string and managed to attach it to some sparred ripstop with great success so it was a shame he wasn't able to do the same at Capstone, maybe you can join the tangles next time Malcolm.
The winds were a little on the light side and had the habit of changing direction making it fun for the pilot kites as we all took it in turns to be the one flying at a different angle to the rest! Considering the changeable wind it was amazing that my Mantaray was the only one to land on a tree; retrospectively it would have made a brilliant photo with it sitting gracefully upside down on the top! Thanks to Bow and Steve for going to the rescue - just one pull on the line and it virtually slid off! It was great to see Simon and Laura there and I think Laura had cornered the market in enthusiasm, enough for all of us! Overall a great day had by all and nice to be part of the relaxed atmosphere.
