Very sad news here is the full text of the e-mail I received from Alan Pothecary Allan Pothecary 17:12 (14 hours ago) to Allan I have just received a message from Mark Powell asking me to pass on the sad news that his dad, Peter Powell, sadly passed peacefully away in hospital at 10:15 this morning. Mark has asked me to make the ‘kiting community' aware. Peter was was one of nicest blokes we ever met - he always had a smile and a good word for anyone he met. Peter was immensely proud of his family and their recent achievements in reviving the kite that made him so famous across the world. His name will live on for decades, even centuries to come. For the moment please pass all messages through me. I will post again here and on our website when I know arrangements Best regards Allan and Marilyn www.closeencounterskites.co.uk 5 x British Pairs Champions Tel: 07858 077 008 (9:30am/9:30pm)

It is sad news, but at least he was there for the re-launch of The Peter Powell kite by his two sons. Condolences to his family at their loss.
Arthur Dibble has just posted on facebook some photos from Swindon 2006 of Peter and there are two photos which show Peter with Ron Dell, very poignant.

One of MKF members has received an e-mail from the family, stating that Peter suffered a stroke.
